We are continuing to play on Monday afternoons, but will also be using, once again, the Tea Garden area at the Fowey Hotel in addition to the Cricket field at the Community College. Please check with Gwen, Rosemary or Reg as to the venue on any given Monday. We hope to see again soon.

Fowey Community college   link

You may have seen our article in the October edition of Fowey News concerning our on going relationship with the Community College. From discussions we have had with the college, we are hopeful that a permanent site for our club will be achieved by the spring of next year. The College hope to be able to give us more details about our prospects for 2004/2005 at the informal gathering on the 4th December (see below). If it all comes together grants may be available to provide a suitable venue with small pavilion. Together we can do it and put Fowey on the Croquet Map.

Note: 8 Dec 2003 - we can now confirm that the Community College have agreed for us to use an area near the cricket pavilion in 2004 (together with use of the pavilion).  If this proves a success we will persue extra funding as mentioned above.

Informal Social get together

There will be a social information gathering occasion at the Cricket Club pavilion at 2 pm on the 4th December. Tony Backhouse and Ian Wilson of Cornwall Croquet Club will be present and we look forward to your support. It would be useful to know in advance if you are able to come along and perhaps you would kindly let Gwen, Rosemary or Reg know.

The Croquet Association

We have been invited to apply for a CA grant. Whilst each application is individually considered, and subject to meeting certain criteria, we are hopeful for a favourable response. It is intended that the grant monies will be used for the purchase of equipment such as balls and hoops.

Note: 8 Dec 2003 - since this newsletter was published we have taken possession of some playing equipment loaned by the South West Federation for us to use for the 2004 season.

Golf Croquet

We are mindful that some of you may wish to play Golf Croquet as an alternative to the demanding Association game and we hope to be able to introduce this at some stage in the future.

Note: 8 Dec 2003 - we will introduce Golf Croquet coaching for the 2004 season in addition to that for Association Croquet.

The Croquet Shop

Do remember to use this facility for your own personal equipment i.e. Mallets. Clothing etc. Videos are also available on the finer points of the game.

Computer Croquet

If you wish to hone up on tactical skills, and play the experts, all be it in virtual reality, there are at least two programs available for armchair players: Kiwi Croquet (free download), a New Zealand creation and Computer Croquet (a demo version is available for download from the internet).

Details of both can be obtained from the 'How to Play' section of Ian Plummer's Oxford Croquet website at www.oxfordcroquet .com/ (scroll down to bottom of page - 'Additional Material').

Nice for the winter evenings!
