On Wednesday May 7th, Cornwall Croquet Club entertained Exeter Croquet Club in the first of this season's South West Federation Intermediate League matches.
The format was the usual - a doubles and two singles match's in the morning, and four singles in the afternoon.
The morning games saw David Edwards & Stephen Read lose 6-13 to Roger Thorne and Ruth Urch in a slow and very defensive game - after an hour, only one hoop had been scored!
Malcolm Hooper had a comfortable win 25-15 against Richard Hichens, but Colin Hadley went down 10-16 against Dick Hoffman.
So at lunch, 2 -1 to Exeter. This was the situation last year, with Exeter then winning all their afternoon matches. However, this was not to be repeated this year.
In the singles, Colin pegged out to beat Richard 26-8, managing a remarkable 7 peels in the game.
Malcolm went down 16-26 to Ruth Urch, who had a stockade of bisques.
However, Stephen had a good win against Dick Hoffman 16-11, and David beat Roger 24-11.
So, revenge for Cornwall with an overall 4:3 win.
